Award-winning local director Finn Keenan is the mind behind the epic new short film for digital social platform Discord staring Danny DeVito and Awkwafina.

Last week Discord unveiled 'Discord – The Movie (2021)' with a full edit complete with full special effects uploaded online days later.

The pseudo-advert is part of the platform’s most recent brand campaign 'Imagine a Place' launched in May.

The five-minute-long film was created with London-based Riff Raff films, for whom Cavan creative Finn works.

“It was incredible,” Finn told The Anglo-Celt this week of the filming experience, which took him to shoot for several weeks in Mexico and LA.

The film features Danny DeVito (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Pulp Fiction, Garden State, Twins) and actress, rapper and comedian Awkwafina (Ocean's 8, Crazy Rich Asians, and Jumanji: The Next Level) as they embark together on a journey to discover what Discord is.

On their adventure, the duo run into interesting faces such as Bretman Rock, J. Balvin, musican Grimes, and others.

“It was meant to be this surreal journey highlighting the all the different ways in which people find their sense of belonging on Discord,” explains Finn of the final product, which has been showing on prime time TV during the Olympic Games event, and will run through the fall across social and digital platforms.

It will also include a 24-hour takeover on Hulu and YouTube and the MTV Video Music Awards.

Only last year Finn was nominated in the best 'New Director' category of British Arrows 2020 for his effort on 'Qiang Diao', an advert for Nike made for promotions agency Wieden+Kennedy.
