Green light for upgrade of Shercock wastewater treatment plant

Cavan County Council has granted planning permission for the upgrading of the Shercock Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The application by Irish Water is to improve the plant to enhance the level of treatment to wastewater produced in the Shercock catchment area prior to its discharge into Lough Sheelin.

The local authority planners gave the green light to the proposed development at Lisdrumskea, Shercock, subject to eight conditions.

The plans for the development provide for a significant upgrade of the existing treatment plant. This includes the construction of a new storm water holding tank, complete with internal cleaning system and internal storm return pumps.

The submitted application covers considerations for access ladder and platform, the construction of new sludge holding tank, complete with internal mixer and decant equipment.

The plans also cover the construction of new stormwater feed, primary sludge feed, effluent wash water pumping stations, the installation of a kiosk to house electrical switchgear, the demolition of existing sludge drying beds and all ancillary site works.

Among the conditions attached to the permission are the signing of a connection agreement and compliance with Irish Water Standards code.
