Rain and drizzle today, clearing later with a mild night ahead

Rain and drizzle over the southern half of the country will edge northwards through today, but it will hold mainly dry for northern and central parts of Ulster. The rain and drizzle will turn heavy at times in parts of the southwest and west, with some hill and coastal mist and fog developing. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees, with winds becoming mainly light to moderate east to southeast, a little fresher for a time in the southwest.

Cloudy and misty tonight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, as well as some hill and coastal fog. A few heavier bursts are likely, mainly in the southwest. A mild night with lowest temperatures generally of 12 to 15 degrees, a little lower in Ulster. Winds will be mostly light to moderate and varying from a northeasterly direction in the north to southerly in the south.

Tomorrow (Sunday) will be cloudy and misty for a time with scattered outbreaks of mostly light rain and drizzle. It will gradually improve though, with a clearance to mainly dry and bright weather with some sunshine, extending from the northwest to most parts through the morning and afternoon, with the clearance reaching the southeast in the early evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees with winds becoming mostly moderate north to northwesterly, fresh to strong though in coastal parts of the west and southwest.

Mainly dry on Sunday night with clear spells. There'll just be a few isolated light showers in northwestern coastal parts. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in mostly moderate northwest winds, a little fresher in coastal parts of the west and northwest.

The coming week will bring an improvement in our weather generally, with rainfall amounts fairly low as pressure will be relatively high for much of the week. There'll be some bright or sunny spells at times, however, in general there'll be a good deal of cloud around, with some mostly weak weather fronts bringing a little rain and drizzle at times. Temperatures will be around average to a little below for much of the week, ranging between 15 and 20 degrees.

Monday will be a mainly dry and bright for much of the day with sunshine. There'll just be a few isolated light showers in coastal parts of the northwest. Cloud will increase though from the northwest later in the day with a little rain and drizzle pushing into Ulster and north Connacht. A little cooler than Sunday with highest temperatures of 15 degrees in the northwest, up to 19 degrees in the southeast. Winds will be mostly moderate northwesterly.

Monday night will be mostly cloudy with just a little patchy light rain, drizzle and mist extending from the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees in mostly moderate northwest breezes.

Tuesday will be mainly cloudy with a little rain and drizzle, becoming mainly confined to parts of the north and northwest by the afternoon. Some bright or sunny spells may develop later in the day, with the best of these likely in the west and south. Highest temperatures of 15 degrees in the northwest up to 19 degrees in the southeast in mostly moderate northwest winds, fresher along the north coast.

Mostly cloudy on Tuesday night with a little patchy rain and drizzle, probably mainly affecting the northern half of the country. Some mist patches too. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest breezes.

Wednesday will be mainly cloudy with a little patchy light rain and drizzle at times. It will probably be mainly dry in the southwest and south with some bright or sunny spells likely. Highest temperatures again of 15 to 18 or 19 degrees, highest in the south, in light to moderate northwest winds.

Some bright or sunny spells in places for a time, but again Thursday will probably bring a fair deal of cloud overall with some outbreaks of mostly patchy light rain and drizzle, with the chance of it turning a little more persistent later in the west and southwest with a few heavier bursts. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in mostly light variable breezes.

At this stage it looks like Friday and next weekend will be rather cloudy with some rain at times.
