Brilliant Britney claims three PBs at Games

Britney's last PB was when she smashed her own Junior World Record with a lift of 100kg in 2019.

Powerlifter Britney Arendse did Cavan and her country proud as she set a series of Personal Bests on her way to finishing seventh overall in the 73kg weight category at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.

The venue Britney competed at in the early hours of this morning is the same used in the weightlifting competition at this year’s Olympic Games.

Made her Games debut, the Mullagh 21-year-old became one of the most recognisable faces of the Team Ireland paralympic team when joined by high-jumper Jordan Lee as co-flagbearers for the Games opening ceremony.

On her way to claiming seventh place Britney achieved two PBs with her first two lifts-103kg and 104kg.

Her next successful attempt was at 107kg, bringing her tally to three PBs for the Games.

Britney's last PB was when she smashed her own Junior World Record with a lift of 100kg in 2019.

Power-lifting has been part of the Paralympics programme since 1984 and will see 20 medal events taking place in the Tokyo International Forum.
