Athboy player can look back on an eventful week

It's back to more routine, bread and butter fare for Jamie McGrath as he returns to club duty with St Mirren following an exciting, productive week on international duty.

On Saturday St Mirren take on Dundee Utd in the Scottish Premiership with Jim Goodwin's club looking for their first league win of the season.

It's a return to a tough environment for the Athboy midfielder who won his third cap for the Republic of Ireland senior team when he played in the 1-1 draw with Serbia at the Aviva last night.

McGrath put in a hard-working shift, as usual, when he played for over a hour against the slick Serbians with a bizarre own goal helping the Irish get the draw.

McGrath impressed greatly in the 1-2 defeat to Portugal in Faro last week and he was surprisingly left out of the 1-1 draw against Azerbaijan on Saturday.

However he started last night's game and produced some neat touches and passes in a game the Irish trailed for long spells with goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu producing a string of outstanding saves.

The game was played in a raucous atmosphere generated by the Irish fans many of whom clearly feel Stephen Kenny is on the right track in terms of building a young team designed for future conquests.
