Minister to meet Cavan school group today

The controversial plans have been met with opposition.

A delegation from the Save our Schools campaign is to meet with the Education Minister today.

The group was set up in late 2019 after the local ETB announced its intention to merge St Bricin’s and St Mogue’s Colleges in west Cavan.

The controversial merger proposal looks amalgamate St Bricin’s in Belturbet and St Mogue’s in Bawnboy. In their place, the plan is to build a new €15 million school in neighbouring Ballyconnell.

The move was met with opposition by some in the communities who have called for the present schools to remain open and receive more investment to improve facilities.

Education Minister Norma Foley committed to meeting with members of the group, with that meeting taking place in Dublin this afternoon.
