Good spells of sunshine today but cooler next week

Mild, cloudy and breezy with rain at times for the weekend and early days of next week, says the latest update from Met Éireann. The national weather forecaster says it will turn cooler later next week.

Cloudy and misty in southern areas this morning, with patches of light rain or drizzle. Clearer and brighter across the northern half of the country with good spells of sunshine. Cloud will increase in Connacht and Leinster later in the afternoon and may bring some isolated patches of drizzle. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees generally with light winds, milder in the southwest with highs of 15 or 16 degrees.

Most places dry tonight with just scattered outbreaks of light rain or drizzle. It'll turn misty in places later with possible fog. Cold in Ulster initially, with lowest temperatures of 2 to 4 degrees, but milder in the south with lows of 7 to 10 degrees, which will extend northwards overnight.

On Saturday, outbreaks of rain will develop in the west by late morning but starting mainly dry elsewhere. The rain will gradually spread eastwards to all areas by evening, clearing in the west later. Moderate southerlies will increase fresh at times. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

Becoming drier early in the night on Saturday as rain clears northeastwards with just some patches of light rain or drizzle lingering. Winds easing to a moderate southwest breeze allowing some pockets of mist or fog to form. Mild, with lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

A mild and mostly cloudy day is forecast for Sunday. A few spots of patchy light rain and drizzle, but there will be a good deal of dry weather. Light to moderate southwest winds will back light southerly. Highest temperatures of 15 to 16 degrees.

It will turn wet and breezy on Sunday night with rain spreading from the southwest to all areas later in the night. Southeasterly winds will increase moderate to fresh, strong on coasts. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

Breezy and mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain on Monday, heavy at times early in the day. Mild for the time of year with highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees in moderate southerly winds, fresh to strong on coasts.

Further outlook: Continuing mild, breezy and generally unsettled with outbreaks of rain for Tuesday and Wednesday. Daytime highs of 16 to 18 degrees.

Then turning cooler later next week as winds turn northwesterly, bringing brighter weather with sunshine and showers. Daytime highs of just 9 or 10 degrees, with frosts developing by night.
