County board to make decision on new proposals tomorrow

GAA news

Cavan county board will decide tomorrow (Thursday) how they intend to vote on the subject of championship structures at the GAA's upcoming Special Congress.

While the Gaelic Players Association have been lobbying hard for so-called Proposal B, which would see a league-based championship not linked to the provincials, the provincial councils in Ulster and Leinster at least appear to be against that option.

Ulster secretary Brian McAvoy has voiced his vehement opposition to Proposal B as the debate, contentious at times, rumbles on ahead of the summit this Saturday.

Cavan county board secretary Liam McCabe confirmed that no decision has been made as of yet, with the clubs opting to allow the management committee of the board to decide.

The clubs were notified ahead of the monthly county board meeting last week but only a handful spoke on the matter, with no debate or consensus reached.

County chairman Kieran Callaghan attended an online meeting with Croke Park on Monday night with Ulster county secretaries, chairmen and Central Council reps due to meet online last night (Tuesday).

“The county board management committee are meeting on Thursday and will make a decision then,” confirmed McCabe.
