Water now safe to drink on Farmoyle/Barraghy GWS

The ‘Do not Consume’ notice has been lifted on the Farmoyle/Barraghy Group Water Scheme with immediate effect.

Following consultation with the Health Service Executive, Cavan County Council has said the water is now safe for use and can be used for drinking and food preparation.

It has been in place for some months due to elevated levels of manganese.

A statement from the local authority advised users served by the scheme: "Please note that if your internal/domestic water system has been in general use throughout the period of the notice, you may now use your water supply as normal.

"If water systems have not been in use for the duration of the notice, consumers should ensure that they flush out their systems by running their hot and cold taps for a period of at least 30 minutes before resuming normal use of the water supply.
