Upgrade works for Cavan play areas

€250,000 has been approved to upgrade 13 play areas in County Cavan. Deputy Brendan Smith said the announcement is a welcome boost for the county.

“I welcome the approval by my colleague Stephen Donnelly TD, Minister for Health of €250,000 for a number of projects in Cavan under the Slaintecare Healthy Communities Community Enhancement Scheme,” he told the Celt.

Cavan is one of 13 counties to receive funding under this scheme. This funding will enable the upgrading of local amenities, particularly play areas. The projects to benefit are: Belturbet Community Playground upgrade: €19,962.01; Cootehill Playground upgrade: €51,196.42; Ballyjamesduff Playground upgrade: €23,145.95; Bailieborough Town Lake- outdoor gym upgrade:€18,489.15; Cavan Town – Enhancement of Con Smith Park, including widening and raising of paths and facilities for the installation of low level lighting: €137,803.35

Deputy Smith welcomed the announcement saying: “I am delighted that play and recreational facilities in five of our towns have been chosen as part of the launch of Healthy Communities by Minister Donnelly.

“These facilities are much valued and in great use throughout the year by local communities and this government funding will be put to good use with these upgrading works.

He continued: “Good amenities attract more people to use and enjoy the great range of outdoor spaces we have locally. I compliment Cavan County Council on submitting the successful applications and also the local community groups on their work in developing these play areas over the years,” Deputy Smith concluded.
