After 18 years, Mossy gets his reward

JFC final reaction

Denn stalwart Tomás Corr played a key role in his team’s JFC final win over Drung last night.

In his 19th season playing senior football for the Crosskeys-based side, the former county midfielder finally got his hands on some major silverware – and he paid tribute to inspirational captain Bernard Gaffney after the game.

“Ah it’s brilliant, just brilliant. Eighteen years – I was on the team in 2003, that was my first year and just to get across the line today was brilliant. We knew what we had to bring to the table, we didn’t take Drung for granted and I suppose it was just the difference in attitude that got us across the line this time,” ‘Mossy’ told the Anglo-Celt after the game.

Having lost the delayed 2020 final, Denn were determined not to let this one slip.

“We never took anyone for granted last year either but just as the year went on, we were 10 months waiting for a final and it was just very hard. We didn’t perform that day but we did today.”

Captain Bernard Gaffney was an inspiration to the whole squad, he said.

“Beanie is just… he’s just the man. He’s just an iron man. What that man has gone through and he just gets back up and brings us on.

“What our parish has gone through. It just brings us on to a different level. The Cobeys, the Martins, the Cahills, the Heaslips and so many more over the last 18 years. We had so many sad nights and at least tonight, we can celebrate.”
