Weather Update

Mostly cloudy but mainly dry at first this morning, but with a little patchy drizzle in southern areas extending northwards. Met Éireann's latest weather bulletin says more persistent rain will spread from the west through the afternoon and evening, becoming heavy at times, especially in the west and northwest. Becoming windy too through the day with southerly winds increasing strong and gusty, with gales in western and northwestern coastal parts. Mild; with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees Celsius.

Windy tonight, with more rain spreading from the northwest, heavy at times in places, especially in northern parts. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds, reaching gale force and gusty in some coastal parts.

Continuing windy for much of the day tomorrow (Friday), and it will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain, persistent for a time in places. Becoming drier through the afternoon and evening, with perhaps a few bright spells in northern areas. Fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds veering west to northwest, will reach gale force and gusty for a time in western and northwestern coastal parts, but will gradually start to moderate later in the day. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees Celsius.

Any lingering rain and drizzle will clear early in the night on Friday and the rest of the night will be dry with some clear spells developing. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees Celsius with winds decreasing light to moderate westerly.

With high pressure as the dominant influence this weekend, there'll be a lot of dry weather with mostly light winds, though fairly cloudy in general. There'll be some rain and drizzle too though, especially in western parts. A good of dry weather early next week too; though it will likely become more unsettled from midweek, with the Atlantic having more of an influence. In general it will be fairly mild; though with a cooler interlude midweek.

This Saturday will be mainly dry with some bright or sunny spells, the best of these in eastern parts. Becoming increasingly cloudy from the west though through the day, with perhaps a little drizzle by the west coast. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 or 15 degrees Celsius, in mostly light south or southwest winds, moderate to fresh in some western coastal parts.

Mostly cloudy on Saturday night with a little patchy drizzle and misty in places. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees Celsius in mostly light southerly breezes.

Mostly cloudy again on Sunday with a little rain and drizzle, mainly in western and northwestern parts, where it will become more persistent later. It will be mainly dry though further east. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees Celsius, in light to moderate southerly winds.

On Sunday night, rain and drizzle will spread from the northwest overnight; with a clearance following to many parts later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees, coolest in the northwest and with the light to moderate southerly winds veering northwesterly as the rain clears.

Looking ahead to Monday and any remaining rain in parts of the east and southeast will clear in the morning, to give a mainly dry bright day on Monday with some sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees Celsius, in light to moderate mainly northwest winds, backing southwesterly later in the northwest.

Mainly dry on Monday night; though with increasing cloud bringing a little rain and drizzle into northwestern parts. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees, coolest in the south and southeast. Winds will be mostly light southwesterly, though a little fresher in the northwest.

Tuesday will be rather cloudy but dry in many places for a time, though with a little light rain and drizzle spreading from the northwest. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly moderate southwest winds, a little fresher in coastal parts of the west and northwest.

Wednesday is expected to be a cooler day with some sunshine and scattered showers, some heavy in northern parts. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty westerly winds.

The Atlantic looks set to dominate for the second half of the week, bringing some rain at times and breezy or rather windy at times too. Milder too with the rain.
