New measures to tackle surge in Covid-19 infection rates

A range of new measures have been introduced by the government to tackle the latest surge in Covid-19 infection rates.

They are as follows.

1. Pubs, restaurants and nightclubs to close at midnight.

2. Working at home for those in a position to do so.

3. Passes will be required on a statutory basis for cinema and theatre attendance.

4. Household close contacts must restrict movement for five days pending completion of antigen testing.

The measures come into effect from midnight on Thursday.
