Drama at Corn Mill as One Act Festival returns

The Corn Mill Theatre and Arts Centre hosted it’s 17th One Act Drama Festival last weekend and this was one of the first major events in the Corn Mill Theatre since lockdown with 12 groups from all over Ireland taking part.

The winners of the Open Section was Kilrush Drama Group from County Wexford with 'Red Carnations’. The winners of the Confined Section were the PIC Players from Offaly with 'A Kind of Alaska’. Both groups go forward to the All-Ireland One Act Finals in the Glór Theatre, Ennis on the first weekend in December.

Theatre goers to Carrigallen got to experience the refurbished foyer and new €70,000 lighting and sound upgrade that was carried out during 2020 thanks to 75% Leader funding.

The adjudicator was Tom Byrne. A native of Celbridge, Kildare, Tom now lives in Leixlip. He has over 40 years involvement with amateur drama and competed in his first festival in 1979. Tom has won numerous awards as a director on productions in the RTE All Ireland Finals in Athlone in 2009 and 2010.
