Granard farm makes €1.38m

The Granard-based auctioneer who sold an 81-acre farm in that area for €1.38m says that the price exceeded all expectations.

Paul Flood of JJ Flood and Sons sold the farm by public auction in the Mullingar Park Hotel on Friday November 19.

A fully-serviced residential farm of the finest quality with free draining land presented in pristine condition, Carrigy’s of Robinstown, Granard, came to the market by way of an executor sale, having been in continuous family ownership for more than 150 years. The property included a 1960s bungalow.

“There was much local interest in the sale and the auction room was buzzing with anticipation. There was also considerable on-line interest,” Paul reported.

The lands and house were offered in various lots, but were eventually put on the market in its entirety.

Bidding was lively for all lots – however, it was clear after the first two rounds that the property would be sold in its entirety, Paul said. After going on the market, two bidders, one in the room and one online competed, and the online bidder won out. “The farm was bought in trust, with much speculation as to who might be the purchaser,” said Paul.

With a total of 16 registered to bid online alone, Paul said this week that there are still many clients looking for parcels of land at the moment.
