Christmas spirit to hit County with CF fundraiser
It'll take place next week.
A number of local businesses in County Cavan are to don their Christmas jumpers in aid of charity.
Mary Daly Hayes, a long time fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland ,took the task of getting the town in the festive spirit and getting 13 premises signed up for Christmas Jumper Day for Cystic Fibrosis (CJD4CF).
They include Virginia College, Skellys Costcutter Virginia, Skellys Mace Ballyjamesduff, McCrystals Staywell Pharmacy, O’Donoghue’s Total Health Pharmacy, Lynchs Pharmacy, Willow’s Café, Mason’s Apron, Riverfront Hotel, SuperValu Virginia, Fresh Today, Brady’s Topline Hardware and Applegreen Daybreak.
Mary says she is "completely bowled over by the support and encouragement" she has received from the businesses.
"I hope to see everyone donning their Christmas jumpers on 10th December for such a worthy cause while at the same time getting into the Christmas spirit."
Ireland has the highest rates of cystic fibrosis in the world and some of the most severe types of the disease. Over 1,400 people are living with CF in Ireland currently.
To raise funds, Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (CFI) has launched their Christmas Jumper Day 4 CF which takes place on Friday, 10th December.
The aim is to raise awareness and funds to help provide support and services for people with cystic fibrosis nationally. These include support grants for people with cystic fibrosis for exercise, transplant assessment, fertility treatment and counselling, as well as research and new healthcare facilities.
While plenty of businesses and schools have already signed up, CFI is encouraging more to get involved. They say all you need to do is:
Ask your staff or colleagues to wear their Christmas Jumper to work on Christmas Jumper Day 4 CF, Friday 10th December in return for a €5 donation to support people with Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland
Anyone not wearing a jumper gets a Bah Humbug badge in return for a €10 donation. It is all for a great cause!
Ask your company to if they are willing to match funds raised on the day.
