Christmas Parade is launched!
Last Friday the organisers of the Christmas Lights Vehicle Parade gathered to launch the 2021 edition of the charity event. This year they celebrate 10 years of brightening up the holiday season.
Public health restrictions last year saw changes to the way the event was conducted with the organisers opting for at a tractor run style, with additional routes to previous years to avoid large gatherings of people.
Originally set up in aid of the Vincent McGee Benefit Fund the annual event has benefited a number of charities over the years: “It's a fundraising event to help collect money for different groups and different organisations within Cavan who support others in times of need,” explained organisers, Kevin Smith.
The parade sees all types of vehicles; tractors, lorries, cars, and even bicycles travel the rout with all the proceeds in aid of various local charities.
Support can be given online through the event’s Facebook page and the GoFundMe page. Registration can be completed on the official Cavan Lights Vehicle Parade Facebook page.
The 2021 Vehicle Parade in Cavan takes place on Sunday, December 19.
The parade will depart from the Equestrian Centre Cavan at 5:00pm and travel through the town centre. This year three charities: The Cavan Autism Education & Training Centre Hub (CLG – CAETC); The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust; and the Vincey McGee Benefit Fund, will all benefit from the event.
Since 2012 the parade has raised over €160,000 for a range of beneficiaries. As well as the charities named this year others like: Aisling Brady Trust; Cavan Monaghan Palliative Care – Nobby McMahon Fund; Blood Bikers; SOSAD Cavan; Deborah Drury; and Lil Jakes Sake, have all received support.
Tickets can be purchased from the Eventbrite website.
