Close to €30K raised through Vehicle Lights Parade

Over 600 vehicles took part in the Christmas Vehicle Lights Parade last Sunday, December 19, to raise spirits and funds for good causes with close to €30,000 generated from the event.

The 10th annual parade set off from Cavan Equestrian Centre around 5pm and proceeded through Cavan Town with thousands turning out along the route to witness the spectacle.

In what organisers described as a “great family fun evening”, some 611 vehicles officially entered the parade.

Kevin Smith one of the organisers was blown away by the support: “A big thank you to all the people who supported us by entering into the parade or giving to our many bucket collectors.

“We would like to thank the Clarke family for the use of the wonderful Equestrian Centre. Without them, it just would not happen; to the Gardaí for their help on the day; the people on the route for their cooperation; to all the volunteers who help out - a massive thank you.

“We wish all a very happy Christmas and New Year!”

Originally set up to aid of the Vincent McGee Benefit Fund, the annual event has benefited a number of charities over the past decade.

The parade sees all types of vehicles; tractors, lorries, cars, and even bicycles travel the route with all the proceeds in aid of various local charities.

People can still support the event online through the event’s Facebook page and the GoFundMe page.

This year three charities: The Cavan Autism Education & Training Centre Hub (CLG – CAETC); The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust; and the Vincey McGee Benefit Fund, will all benefit from the event.

Since 2012 the parade has raised over €190,000 for a range of beneficiaries. As well as the charities named this year others like: Aisling Brady Trust; Cavan Monaghan Palliative Care – Nobby McMahon Fund; Blood Bikers; SOSAD Cavan; Deborah Drury; and Lil Jakes Sake, have all received support.
