It is with regret that we note the following deaths in our community over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie

Margaret (Mags) Garvey (née Smith)

Rosehill, Mullagh Co. Cavan.

Peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at her residence in Rosehill, Mullagh. Mags is predeceased by her parents Christy and Kathleen and her brother Hughie. Deeply regretted by her loving husband Stephen, son Darren, daughters Karen and Stephanie, sons-in-law John and Jason, daughter-in-law Katy her nine adored grandchildren Kayla, Nellie, Paige, Heidi, Darcie, Clodagh, Lexi, Stevie, and John her brothers and sisters Marion (England), Christy (Kildare), Veronica ( Virginia), Kathleen (Carrickmacross), Nora (Mullagh), Patrick (Palmyra) and Sean (Mullagh) brothers and sisters-in-law her nieces, nephews, neighbours and her many many friends.

Reposing at her residence today from 11-4pm. House private at all other times, please. Funeral on Sunday, 26th December, in St. Kilian's Church, Mullagh, at 11.30am, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to the Oncology Unit, Cavan. For those who wish to sympathise with the family and cannot, may do so on the condolence book provided below. Please adhere to the current government Covid guidelines.

Fergus Lynch

Knockahista, Cavan / Clontarf, Dublin

December 16th 2021, suddenly. Predeceased by his father John. Fergus will be very sadly missed by his heartbroken Mother Bridie, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, all his extended family, neighbours, work colleagues and many friends.

A private cremation will take place in Lakelands Crematorium, Dublin Road, Cavan, today, Friday, at 1pm. Requiem Mass for the happy repose of the soul of Fergus will be celebrated in St. Felim’s Church, Ballinagh, at a later date and time will be published. Molly Smith (nee Bennett)

Lackenduff, Ballyjamesduff and formerly Carrickavee.

Died, peacefully, in the care of the wonderful staff at Cavan General Hospital. Beloved wife of Hughie and devoted Mum to Claire.

Molly will be sadly missed by Hughie and Claire, her son-in law Paddy, her adored grandchildren Elliot & Alex, her dear sister Nellie Lee, cherished nieces, nephews, the extended Bennett & Smith families including Jim (Cavan), Betty, Kathleen, Rosella, Brendan (USA), great neighbours and many friends.

Hughie and Claire would like to thank their wonderful relatives, neighbours and friends for their support over these few difficult weeks. They are very grateful to the staff at Virginia Health Centre and Cavan General Hospital and they will think of them as they work tirelessly during this holiday period.

Molly Smith (née Reilly)

Raheelagh, Stradone, Cavan

Peacefully, in the care of the staff of Oakview Nursing Home. Predeceased by her husband Noel, son Matt, brother Eamon and sister Mona. Much loved mother of Ann, Austin, Geraldine, Fiona and Andrew. Sadly missed by her sisters Peggy and Kathy, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan on Tuesday from 5pm, concluding with prayers at 7pm. Removal on Wednesday to arrive at St. Brigid’s Church, Laragh, for Funeral Mass at 12 noon, burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only please, donations in lieu to The Parkinson’s Association, care of PJ Brady, Funeral Director.

John Lennon

Corlea, Ballybay, Co Monaghan

Wednesday, 22nd December 2021, peacefully at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his father James. Deeply regretted and remembered with love by his wife Moya, daughters Katie, Aoife and Shauna, son Joseph, mother Cassie, sisters Mary and Martina, brothers HughJoe and Seamus, sisters-in-law Ann, Michelle and Laura, brothers-in-law Pearse, John, Ciaran and Ozcan, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Reposing at his home. House private, please. Removal on Sunday, 26th December at 10.30am to arrive at the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Tullycorbet at 11am for Funeral Mass. Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery. (Please adhere to current government and HSE Covid guidelines). Please note in view of Christmas day falling on Saturday and not having a funeral Mass for John on Christmas day, instead having it on Sunday the 26th at 11am, the Mass scheduled for Ballintra at 11am this Sunday 26th has been cancelled.

James (Jim) McMahon

Tullynahinera, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan

Wednesday, 22nd December 2021, peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. Predeceased by his son Patrick. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by his devoted wife Kathleen, sons Seamus and Alan, daughters Joanne and Liz, sons-in-law Marty and Johnny, daughter-in-law Majella, grandchildren Ciaran, Aoife, James, Daragh, Eoghan and Jack, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends.

In an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and in respect for Government Guidelines, McMahon’s house will be Strictly Private. James’ funeral cortege will leave his residence on Friday morning (Christmas Eve) at 11.30am to arrive at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Lough Egish for Requiem Mass at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.

The community of neighbours and friends are welcome to pay their final tribute to James by lining the route, in a socially distanced manner, as his remains are brought from his home to the church on Friday morning.

Elizabeth Murray Parkins

Newcastle Upon Tyne and Dartrey, Rockcorry, Co. Monaghan

Wednesday 22/12/21, suddenly, at her residence. Predeceased by her parents Paddy and Mary Murray, her brothers Brendan, Liam, Kenith and her sister Kay. Deeply regretted by her devoted husband David, sisters Eileen Campbell (Roscommon), Imelda (Dublin), sister in law Angela Murray (Monaghan), nephews John, Dereck and Adam, niece Laura, relatives and a large circle of friends.
