Stellar education at St Mogue’s

It was the Greek philosopher Heraclitus who said that “in life the only constant is constant change” and that is certainly true in the world of education. Our schools, colleges and universities by their very nature reflect the ever-changing landscape they inhabit and nowhere is that more evident than in St Mogue’s College.

From humble beginnings in the former workhouse in Bawnboy to one of the leading educational establishments in Cavan and surrounding counties, St Mogue’s has impacted significantly on all those who have graced its corridors.

Moving through the decades the emphasis was always “excellence” in education and the holistic development of the individual. With its finger firmly on the pulse of change and always with a critical eye on the future needs of a modern workforce, St Mogue’s was one of the first schools in Ireland to introduce one-to-one iPad usage for all students.

Academic success

This innovation was rewarded with the school named as National Digital School of the Year in 2014. Since then, technology is at the core of the curriculum, reflecting the need to prepare students for a world where transferable skills are not only desirable but critical. But digital literacy is only part of the overall educational experience in St Mogue’s.

Its name has become synonymous with academic success and the college was one of only five in Ireland featured in a publication by Oxford and Cambridge Universities outlining centres of educational excellence in the UK and Ireland.

St Mogue’s College also excels in the area of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities – taking the national title in the ‘One Good Idea’ competition - in addition to many accolades in science and literature.

In the sporting arena, there have been many successes, not least taking the Ulster title back to back in 2019 and 2020.

St Mogue’s College endeavours to deliver a truly holistic education and to develop well rounded citizens who recognise that, as well as conferring benefits, being a member of society also brings responsibilities.
