Ballymacad hunt set to raise money for Cavan charities

Ballymacad Hunt have a number of Cavan events coming up to raise money for worthwhile local causes.

Their first charity trek of the year takes place on Sunday, March 6 at Denn. This trek is in aid of ‘Be Buddies Not Bullies’, a charity set up by the Heaslip family in memory of their son Eden, and all the lives that have been lost to bullying. The Heaslip family are great supporters of the hunt and regularly followed together with Eden when in the locality.

The aim of Be Buddies Not Bullies is to provide a free helpline for young people in Ireland who are experiencing any type of bullying in their lives.

The second event will take place on Sunday, March 20 and this time the beneficiary will be the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Motor neurone disease is a progressive neurological condition affecting how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. The Association helps patients and families diagnosed with MND.

These fundraisers build on recent events hosted by Ballymacad. On St Stephen’s Day, a collection was made on the morning of the Oldcastle traditional meet, raising over €2000 for Oldcastle Meals on Wheels who provide an excellent service to many elderly people. This sum will be added to by donations made from Ballymacad members who fall during a day’s hunting - the more fallers the more money raised.

Ballymacad Hunt members estimate they have raised in the region of €90,000 for local charities.
