It is with regret that we note the following deaths in our community over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie

Martin Sexton

Knockateggart, Clifferna, Stradone, Cavan

The death has occurred of Martin Sexton Knockateggart, Clifferna, Stradone, Co.Cavan. Died 16th February 2022, peacefully at Cavan General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents and sister Breege (Oates). Deeply regretted and remembered by his loving wife Peggy. Sadly missed by his son Patrick, his daughter Jillian, his much loved sister's Roisin, Maura and his brother Seamus. Sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and neighbours.

Rest In Peace.

Funeral Mass will take place this Friday morning in St. Michael's Church Clifferna at 12 noon followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Please adhere to covid guidelines. House Strictly private please.

Katie McCluskey (née MORRIS)

Darkley, Shercock, Cavan

Peacefully at Cavan General Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Michael, parents, Patrick and Elizabeth, brothers, Gerry, Hugh and John. Deeply regretted by her daughters, Sarah and Michelle, son John, sons-in-law Sean and Jeff, daughter-in-law Amy, grandchildren Frankie and Joe, sisters May Mahon and Elsie Morris, brother Paddy Joe, nephews, nieces, good neighbours, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Mullens Funeral Home, Cootehill on Thursday evening from 5pm until 7pm. Removal from her daughter Sarah's residence on Friday morning to arrive at St Patrick's Church, Shercock for Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. House private please. People are asked to comply with HSE restrictions.

Christina O'Malley (née O'Reilly)

Ballincar, Rosses Point, Sligo / Cavan Town, Cavan

Christina O’Malley (nee O’Reilly) Ballincar, Rosses Point, Co. Sligo, February 15th 2022, peacefully at home in the loving care of her son Shane. Loving Mum and proud daughter of the late Phil and Anne O’Reilly, Imperial Hotel, Cavan and wonderful Mother of Phil and Shane. Greatly missed by her loving sons, her siblings Breda, Marie and Philip, her dear in laws Elaine, Helen, Jim, Maeve, Marita, Maura, Noreen, Sean, her 2 sons, Phil and Shane, her supportive daughters in law Georgina and Svetlana, her cherished grandchildren, Alex, Charlie, Eddie, Ella and Rebakah and her many nieces and nephews.

She will also be sadly missed by all that knew her from her long and devoted teaching career, her golfing (mis) adventures and her long service volunteering in her community. Mum was a great helper of people, family or not didn’t matter, she loved a party, loved her life and all those in it.

May she rest in peace

Her strong faith made her calm in the face of death.

Christina will repose at the home of her sister Breda and brother in law James Elliott “Rockwell House” Drumelis, Cavan (H12 RF68) tomorrow Thursday from 2pm until 8pm. As Covid is still with us please be mindful of the Family and take every care. Removal on Friday morning to the Cathedral of Ss Patrick & Felim, Cavan travelling via Farnham Rd. and Farnham St. and arriving for Funeral Mass at 11.30am. Following Mass the cortege will travel up Main St. and on to St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Killygarry, where Christina will be laid to rest in the Family plot.

Shelia Smith (née Burns)

Carrickatubber, Crosskeys, Cavan

Shelia Smith (nee Burns, Billis, Ballyjamesduff), Carrickatubber, Crosskeys, Co. Cavan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her beloved husband Patsy Smith, brother Eamon Burns and her parents Laurence and Mary Burns. Deeply regretted by her daughters Elaine and Emer, sons in law Eoghan Coll and Myles O'Reilly, her cherished grandchildren Iarlaith, Eanna, Archie and Isla. Brother P.J., sisters Bridie and Margie, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

MAY SHE REST IN PEACE

Reposing on Thursday, 17th of February, at Finnegans Funeral Home, Cavan Town, from 7pm to 9pm. This will be "walk through only" please. Family Home is strictly private. Removal to St. Matthews Church, Crosskeys on Friday morning, the 18th of February arriving at 12 noon for Funeral Mass with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Brian Cassidy

Terrytole, Ballinode, Monaghan

The death has occurred of Brian Cassidy, Terrytole, Ballinode, Co.Monaghan. Wednesday 16th February unexpectedly but peacefully at Cavan General Hospital.

Predeceased by his loving wife Philomena and sister Rose. Lovingly remembered by his daughter Claire, son Brian, son in law Paul and daughter in law Colette, grandchildren Conor, Niall, Emer, Liam, Gavin & Hugh, sister Madge, brother in law Pat, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Brian's remains will repose at his residence on Thursday from 6pm to 9pm. Funeral Mass on Friday morning at St.Mary's Church, Urbleshanney, Scotstown at 11am (streamed live on Tydavnet Parish RC Churches Facebook page). Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Please ensure to observe social distancing and mask wearing at all times.

Gráinne Friel (née O'Doherty)

Maghernalaght, Kindrum, Fanad, Donegal / Monaghan

Peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Letterkenny University Hospital. Predeceased by her husband James. Deeply regretted by her daughters Eileen Friel (Maghernalaght), Roisin McBride (Letterkenny), Martina Hegarty (Boston), Teresa Mullaney (Kindrum), Nuala Friel Wright (Boston) and her son Kevin (Boston). Sadly missed by her brother Michael E O'Doherty (Dunfanaghy), her sister Brid O'Doherty (Ballyheerin), grandchildren Áine, Catherine, Nicholas and Owen, sons-in-law Ray Moore, Paddy McBride (RIP), Denis Hegarty, Noel Mullaney and Steve Wright, all her extended family, neighbours and her many friends.

Requiem Mass will be held on Friday 18th at 11am in St. Mary's Church, Fanavolty followed by burial in the adjoining graveyard.
