Storm Eunice forces vaccine centre closure

The HSE has announced, due to the “proximity” of the Orange weather warning associated with Storm Eunice to Cavan, the 5-11 year old Dose 1 and Dose 2 clinic scheduled for tomorrow, February 18 has been postponed.

The vaccine deliver was scheduled to take place from 2pm to 7pm at the Cavan Covid Vaccination Centre located at the Hotel Kilmore in Cavan Town.

“Parents have been informed,” said the HSE in a statement issued this afternoon.

They add that the age cohort will be accommodated to receive their vaccination on any of the following alternative 5-11 year old clinic dates- Wednesday, February 23 from 11am to 5pm; Thursday, February 24 from 2-7pm; and Sunday, February 27 from 11am to 5pm.

According to Met Eireann, Storm Eunice will “track quickly” over Ireland tonight and Friday morning bringing severe and damaging winds.

Southwest winds veering northwest will reach mean speeds in excess of 80 km/h with gusts in excess of 130 km/h.

A Red status weather warning has been issued for Cork and Kerry, with an Orange coded alert for counties for Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon with Storm Eunice expected to bring heavy sleet and snow leading to blizzard-like conditions in parts, as well as causing potentially treacherous driving conditions.

The Orange alter is in operation from 3am on Friday, February 18, and lasts until 3pm.

Nationally, a Status Yellow for wind, rain and snow has been issued.

“Storm Eunice will track over Ireland on Thursday night and on Friday bringing very strong winds and falls of heavy rain, sleet and snow. Some disruption is likely along with a possibility of coastal and spot flooding.”
