MILESTONE Assurance given in letter to Minister Humphreys

Funding for the new Cavan Institute Campus has been “ring-fenced”, it has been revealed today.

Confirmation that the funding is now guaranteed was made in a letter to Minister Heather Humphreys this lunchtime by the Minister for Higher and Further Education Simon Harris.

The value of the funding has not been disclosed, but it is understood to be more than €10m. The next step is for Cavan Monaghan ETB to submit a proposal.

Welcoming the news, Minister Humphrey predicted the new campus “will put education on a new footing".

“I’m really pleased to announce that the funding for a new campus Cavan Institute is now guaranteed," said Minister Humphreys.

“Minister for Higher and Further Education Simon Harris has confirmed to me now in writing this afternoon that Cavan Institute will be part of his Department’s Capital Plan.

“He confirmed to me that the funding is now ring-fenced, which will be such welcome news for the people of Cavan and the wider region.”

Milestone

“This really is big news for Cavan and I’m delighted to have worked closely with Minister Harris on reaching this milestone.

The Minister added: “What this is going to do is provide a state of the art campus for the students of Cavan institute.

“This is really good news and will put education on a new footing in Cavan.

“I really want to thank Minister Harris for working with me on this project.”
