Lands in Belturbet earmarked for future educational use

The rezoning of circa 17 acres of land in Belturbet to ‘Public and Community’ has been approved with the future prospect of it being used to develop and upgrade school and childcare facilities in the erneside town.

The motion to change the draft County Development Plan was tabled by Fianna Fáil’s Sean Smith.

The site, adjacent to Marion Park and the local golf club, was first submitted for rezoning back in May last year.

The motion was supported by the executive, and reflects also council planners’ concern that the site sits adjacent to the flood plain.

The adoption of the change to the draft CDP was approved unanimously.

Boundaries extended

Meanwhile, it was decided to extend the Ballyconnell town development boundary to include a small site (approximately 0.915ha) at Derryginney, Ballyconnell, owned by Malachy McDwyer for which ‘Residential’ zoning was sought.

A similar decision was made in respect of lands at Moynalty Road, Mullagh, owned by Patrick Carolan, to be zoned as ‘Low Density Residential’; and with regards to lands at Moynalty Road, Rosehill, Mullagh, owned by Paul Taite, also to be zoned as ‘Low Density Residential’.

In Kilnaleck, a submission was made by Michael Fitzpatrick on behalf of Crosserlough Construction. The submission related to lands at Church Road, Kilnaleck and a request that these lands to be zoned as ‘White Lands’.

Fine Gael’s Madeleine Argue excused herself from the vote, which was supported by the councillors on foot of a proposal by Fianna Fáil’s Philip Brady.

Cllr Argue excused herself yet again from the vote on foot of a submission to zone land at Crosskeys as ‘White Lands’.
