N3 crash victim named locally

College student was on her way home to Cavan Town when the accident occurred

The young woman who died tragically in an early hours crash on the N3 near Butlersbridge this week has been named locally.

Ciara Lynch Ellis (23) was a college student, and its understood, had been on her way home to Cavan when the accident occurred at Derrygarra Lower, Butlersbridge at approximately 5:20am (Wednesday, March 2).

Two other women, one aged in her 30s and the other in her 50s were taken to Cavan General Hospital to be treated for their injuries, which are understood to be “non-life threatening”.

Its understood they were both travelling to work at the time of the accident.

Ciara Lynch Ellis, of 2 Pairc An Dúin, Cavan Town, is survived by her parents Sinead and Paddy, and sublings Patrick, Hannah and Jermaine, as well as “nanny” Kathleen Lynch, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family and wide circle of friends.

Her body will repose at her home in Pairc An Dúin on Friday, March 4, from 3pm until 7pm.

A post on RIP.ie noted: “House private to friends & family at all other times, please.”

The notice adds that Ms Lynch Ellis' remains will leave her home on Saturday morning at 11.30am, travelling via Wolfe Tone St (Barrack Hill), to arrive at The Cathedral of Saints Patrick & Felim, Cavan Town, for Funeral Mass at 12 noon.

Burial will take place afterwards in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Killygarry.

Funeral Mass will be available to view live on the parish website www.cavantownparish.com.

Gardaí meanwhile are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision.

The road was currently closed for much of Wednesday to allow for a technical examination to take place by Forensic Collision Investigators, and only reopened late at night.

“Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.”
