More wind and rain with risk of localised flooding

Weather Update

Wet and windy this morning with heavy rain spreading further eastwards, leading to localised flooding in strong and gusty southerly winds. The rain will be heaviest over the southern half of the country where it will fall as sleet at times, with snow possible on high ground. Through the morning and afternoon, drier and brighter weather will follow from the west as winds ease, but rain will persist in the east until evening. Cool with afternoon highs of 5 to 9 degrees.

Tonight will be largely dry and clear as any remaining rain and sleet in the east clears into the Irish Sea. However, occasional drizzle patches will linger near eastern coasts through the night. Cold with lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees with a widespread frost and some icy stretches developing overnight. Areas of mist and fog forming also, with some dense pockets, in mainly light winds.

Any frost, ice and fog will clear tomorrow morning to leave a largely dry and bright day with sunny spells. However, cloud will build over Munster, Connacht and west Ulster in the afternoon and evening. Turning breezier through the day as light to moderate southerly winds increase fresh to strong during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Becoming cloudy overnight on Thursday with rain spreading to most areas from the southwest overnight, turning heavy at times. Quite breezy with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds and lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.

Generally unsettled with heavy or thundery showers on Friday before a spell of wet and windy weather develops over the weekend.

A wet start with widespread rain turning heavy in places. Rain will slowly clear northeastwards through the day with sunny spells and widespread showers following from the southwest. The showers will be heavy or thundery with hail possible. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds.

Becoming largely dry on Friday night with clear spells, though there will be scattered showers along Atlantic coasts. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees with frost and some icy patches developing in places. Patchy mist and fog developing too in light winds.

Saturday should bring a mostly dry and bright start to the day but it will gradually turn cloudier through the day with rain spreading over the southern half of the country during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate southeasterly winds, increasing fresh to strong with the rain.

A generally wet and windy night on Saturday. Outbreaks of rain will spread across the country, turning heavy at times, accompanied by strong and gusty southeasterly winds. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.

A wet and windy day on Sunday with widespread outbreaks of rain and fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Early next week: Staying unsettled into the early days of next week, though there is a signal for some drier spells towards midweek.
