WATCH: Incredible old footage of Erne festival emerges

The videos of the Belturbet Festival of the Erne were uploaded over the weekend

Incredible footage almost a quarter of a century old of Belturbet town's iconic Festival of the Erne has appeared online.

Once one of the largest festivals of its kind in the region, the Belturbet Festival of the Erne was week-long wealth of family friendly fun activities that kicked off with the crowning of the Lady of the Erne.

Between treasure hunts and kid's fancy dress, there was also the Northwest’s largest adults fancy dress party.

The videos of the Belturbet Festival of the Erne were uploaded over the weekend on the ButlersBridge YouTube page, and feature many familiar local faces from over the years.

The snippets were edited and put together from a damaged VHS tape from the 199, Belturbet Festival of the Erne.

The original video belongs to Garret Maguire of Maguire Media and was produced by award winning Belturbet playwright Brendan McCann.

"The video I believe was 1hr 45minutes long. Garret gave me the ok to pop up some of the edited snippets I managed to rescue, mostly the faces from the crowd that attended. However the original has a ton of activity. Battle of the bands, Lady of the Erne etc."
