Drop in number on housing list

Cavan has seen a 46% reduction in the numbers on its social housing waiting list over the past five years, according to the Department of Housing.

Figures released in the past week show 414 people were on the list last year, down from 761 in 2016. Last year's figure represents households on the list as of November 17.

This figure is down 170, or 29%, from the 584 households recorded in 2020.

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, has welcomed the figures published in the 2021 Summary of Social Housing Assessments (SSHA). Nationally, 59,247 households were assessed as being qualified for social housing support as of November 17, 2021, down 2,633 (4.3%) from 61,880 households on November 2, 2020. This figure is a reduction of 32,353 (35.3%) since 2016.
