Drama revisits 1916 Rising through eyes of volunteers

PERFORMANCE Frank Shouldice brings acclaimed show to Mullagh

Dublin Brigade's 1st Battalion at the Four Courts was the last Volunteer garrison to lay down its arms in the Easter Rising. Having faced incredible odds all week the battle for North King Street did not end when Padraig Pearse issued an order to surrender. It was, for those who lived through it, an experience they would never forget.

Using spoken word and original music Chambermade Productions presents Six Days, a highly evocative re-imagining of those incredible events. Based largely on the personal accounts of those who took part Six Days will be performed by writer/director Frank Shouldice accompanied by gifted cellist Rob Campbell.

The author bases the story on his Ballaghaderreen grandfather – and namesake – who was a sniper with his brother Jack at the Jameson Malthouse in Smithfield. Both served extended prison sentences in England following the Rising and thereafter through the War of Independence.

Six Days will be performed in Manorhamilton on Friday, May 6 and Mullagh on Friday, May 13. The show has been very well received with its entire Dublin run selling out.
