Hope of securing site for Cootehill NCT centre

Little progress has been made on plans for a new NCT centre in Cootehill.

The National Car Testing Service has again advertised for industrial buildings or serviced sites in the town to be used as a testing centre.

It had originally called for owners of available properties to get in touch in March of last year. However, it has since readvertised.

Applus, the company which runs the NCT service and its 49 centres nationwide, says it hopes to secure “a detached building” or “a serviced site zoned industrial” to allow for the development of a two-lane test centre.

It hopes to either convert an existing building or build a new one on a serviced site in the Cootehill town area.

Requirements include a zoned site, a minimum of 50 metres long by 45 metres wide and have a floor plan of around 4,300 square foot.

It’s hoped a new NCT Centre in Co Cavan could help relieve pressure on the creaking testing system locally.

A search of the NCT test website in recent days showed the earliest available test slot in Cavan town was November 10 next. Monaghan’s earliest date was November 7, with Kells showing September 23.

Cavan’s only test centre is located in the county town, with one in Monaghan town.
