Greenway project consultation to take place

Second consultation takes place at the Hotel Kilmore, Dublin Road, Cavan Town on Tuesday, June 14, from 2pm – 8pm.

Members of the public are invited to have their say on the Cavan Greenway project.

Cavan County Council has commenced the development of the Cavan Greenway project, connecting the towns of Cavan, Ballyconnell, and Belturbet to the Ulster Canal and Cavan Leitrim greenways using disused rail-lines and historic pathways.

Currently under development, the approximately 40 kilometre route comprises of three corridors, namely: The South – North Corridor (from Cavan Town to the Ulster Canal Greenway); The East – West Corridor (from Cloverhill to Ballyconnell); and the link to Castlesaunderson (from the vicinity of Redhills Village to the Castlesaunderson Heritage Site).

The route options consider the use of the disused railway line (Cavan to Clones and Cloverhill to Ballyconnell), the Kingfisher Trail, and existing roads.

Members of the public are being invited to attend the first public consultation event to view the Study Area and to comment on the initial findings of the constraints study and on the preliminary route options developed for the Cavan Greenway.

The first event took place at the Seven Horseshoes Hotel, Belturbet on Friday, June 10, with the second taking place at the Hotel Kilmore, Dublin Road, Cavan Town on Tuesday, June 14, from 2pm – 8pm.
