Kingscourt regeneration moves to next stage

A public consultation ended in June.

Fifteen submissions were received as part of the public consultation on major rejuvenation plans for Kingscourt.

Launched in early June, the consultation allowed members of the public or groups to have their say on the project, which includes a complete overhaul of the town centre.

It’s hoped, when complete, the project will lead to an increase in public space, see car parking moved to off-street locations, all utilities and cables placed underground and the facades of town centre buildings painted. Also included are plans for a new town library and a digital hub.

Work is also ongoing on a separate masterplan for nearby Dún an Rí Forest Park.

A spokesperson for Cavan County Council has confirmed that just 15 submissions were received over the two week consultation period. The submissions will now be reviewed before work on the next stage of planning begins.

“The information returned is currently being collated and will be reviewed by the design team. They will then revise and finalise the scheme’s preliminary designs over the coming weeks taking account of any comments received,” the spokesperson detailed.

Over €1 million is being spent on the development of the plans, with Tobin Consulting Engineers appointed last year to coordinate the process.

Their analysis of the public submissions will be used to draw up a “preferred option” for further work on the project.

“Presentation of the preferred option to stakeholders will then take place in advance of commencing the statutory planning process,” said the council spokesperson.
