Cavan hits 24C as temperatures expected to rise

Climate change is being blamed for rising temperatures across Europe.

Temperatures in Cavan hit 24 degrees yesterday but it’s not looking like today will be quite as warm.

There are concerns across Europe at drastically high temperatures. Parts of Spain and France are expected to pass 40 degrees this week and a temperature warning has been issued by the UK Met Office. Temperatures there could reach the high 30s.

Hot air from north Africa is likely to push continental Europe into record breaking temperatures.

Here at home won’t be quite as warm but could reach the high 20s over the coming days.

Met Éireann says temperatures at the weather station in Ballyhaise hit 24 degrees yesterday. The highest nationally yesterday was recorded in the Phoenix Park, where a temperature of 27.7 degrees was reached.

The lowest temperature was in Belmullet - 19.5 degrees.
