Mountnugent farmer completes Malin to Mizen walk

Mountnugent farmer Martin Sheridan walked from Malin in Co Donegal to Mizen in Co Cork in time to celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife Nicole.

The local man completed the mammoth north-south 600 kilometre trek on Sunday, July 24, arriving to the iconic coastal spot shortly before lunchtime.

He began the walk back on July 16, hoping to raise awareness and funds for two local charities- the Eden Heaslip inspired 'Be Buddies, Not Bullies' campaign and the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge.

After leaving Malin on day one, day two saw Martin walk from Strabane on the Donegal/Tyrone border to Swanlinbar in Cavan.

He was joined by some friends who happily kept him company on the day three leg from Swanlinbar to Longford.

By Day 5 he’d made it to Birdhill in Tipperary, and kept good his promise to detour from the traditional route for a night’s stay in Killarney.

In 2018, Martin walked as far as Sneem, and his only "regret" is he "didn't go the whole way".

A manager at Kiernan’s farms, dad-of-two Martin was joined by his sons Michael (22) and Thomas (19) in crossing Mizen Bridge, where he was also greeted by his loving wife Nicole.

An iDonate page set up for Martin has to date raised more than €2,000.

Previously Martin raised over €5,000 for the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge.
