Water tankers have been placed in Laragh and Tunnyduff for people affected.

Do Not Consume notice remains in place for local water scheme

The Do Not Consume notice issued for the Mountainlodge Group Water Scheme remains in place.

Cavan County Council issued the notice last week following consultation with the HSE.

It said it was issued "with immediate effect to protect the health of all consumers of water supplied by the Mountainlodge Group Water Supply Scheme".

Higher than permitted levels of manganese are being blamed for the notice, the latest such restriction put in place for locals in recent weeks due to manganese levels.

People serviced by the network are being told not to consume their water in any circumstances. Boiling your water will not render it safe to drink.

Cavan County Council says bottled water, or alternatively sourced water should be used for:

  • Drinking
  • Preparing Drinks made with water
  • Cooking of Food.
  • Food Preparation including washing and preparation of salads and similar foods, which are not cooked prior to eating
  • Brushing of teeth and/or gargling
  • Making of ice. However, ensure you first discard all existing ice cubes in fridges and freezers and filtered water in fridges

Alternative water supplies are provided in Laragh and Tunnyduff for people affected. Water from tankers should be boiled before use for drinking or for food preparation.

It follows a Do Not Consume notice which was issued for Cootehill in recent weeks. Thousands were affected by the notice which hit businesses and householders alike.

It has since been lifted.
