Moving weekend in IFC and JFC as pace-setters emerge
GAA news
Moving weekend arrives in the Intermediate and Junior Football Championships as round three throws.
Ballyhaise, who had a 20-point win over Cornafean on Sunday, Templeport and Shercock are the early pace-setters at intermediate level with two wins apiece, followed by Castlerahan and Cuchulainns who are unbeaten but have each had a draw.
At the bottom end of the table, Ballymachugh, Belturbet and Killeshandra are all on zero points and badly need a win this weekend when they meet Drumgoon, Templeport and Cuchulainns respectively.
At junior level, Arva were hot favourites for the Sean Leddy Cup after their comfortable win over Drumlane in round one but they were held to a draw by Knockbride in a thrilling encounter on Sunday. With Drumlane bouncing back to dismiss Drung, the field remains condensed.
Shannon Gaels and Redhills are also unbeaten on three points while Drumalee bounced back from an opening round loss to Knockbride to impressively see off Munterconnaught on Saturday.
The Senior Championship really caught light in the sixth match last Sunday evening as Killygarry saw off Gowna in an exciting encounter. Jody Devine's team will look to back that up when they face Ballinagh in Crosskeys, while Gowna take on Laragh, who had a big win over Butlersbridge at the weekend, in Ballinagh.
The 2020 champions Crosserlough were beaten by a point by a Gearoid McKiernan-inspired Cavan Gaels on Saturday evening but will be favourites to get a first win against local rivals Lacken; although the Celtics are an improved outfit and beat Lavey, they look set to be without the injured Thomas Galligan.
Elsewhere, Ramor, who had a five-point victory over Kingscourt, meet Butlersbridge, with the Stars taking on Lavey, whom they beat in last year's quarter-final.
The county board are reporting excellent attendances thus far, with over 3,000 tickets sold in one 45-minute period last Sunday on the online ticketing system.
Fourteen different venues will be utilised this weekend around the county, with action throwing in on Thursday evening with the meeting of Kildallan and Drumalee in Bawnboy.
Nearby Corlough will host the Shannon Gaels v Drumlane game on Sunday; the host club picked up their first win with a derby victory over Swanlinbar at the weekend and will meet Munterconnaught in Kingspan Breffni on Sunday afternoon.
Last evening (Thursday), Drumalee and Knockbride picked up wins as they comfortably saw off Kildallan and Swanlinbar respectively.
