N55 works to start this year

Works are set to commence on the next phase of the N55 realignment before the end of this year.

Cllr Winston Bennett had sought an update on the project at the September meeting of the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District Authority.

The works include the construction of the Killydoon bypass, which is expected to take at least two years to conclude.

The works were confirmed by MD manager, John McGahern, who told members that the council will have “men on the ground this year”.

Tenders for the next phase of the N55 upgrade were flagged last September when Cavan County Council said approval by officials at Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) was the only impediment to progress.

The final phase of the project will see the village of Killydoon bypassed by a new 3.7km section of roadway.
