Pollard exhibition honours memory of local artist

Castlepollard Library will host an art exhibition showcasing the work of the late local artist Martha Furley McCabe from October 15 to 29.

Mother of two Martha passed away on October 16 last year and the exhibition has been timed to coincide with the first anniversary of her untimely death.

Titled the 'The Spirit of the Artist' the exhibition will consist of around 20 pieces of Martha's work.

A native of Dublin, Martha also lived in the north Meath area for a while before setting down her roots in the Castlepollard area with her husband Alan and daughter and son, Erin and Naoise.

In the early 90s, Martha worked on a number of animated movies with the Sullivan Bluth animation company in Dublin, including Thumbelina, Pebble And The Penguin and A Troll In Central Park.

She held many art classes in her home, for adults and children alike. She also trained and qualified as a Montessori teacher.

Martha's anniversary mass will take place in Fore on Saturday evening, October 15 at 6pm. Following mass, there will be refreshments in Doyne's Bar, Glenidan, followed by a ballad session at 8pm to remember Martha, with local band Baltrad, organised by the Michael Fagan Fenian Society, of which Martha was a founding member.
