Car targeted at local beauty spot

Gardaí are investigating the theft of a catalytic converter from a parked car at Dun a Rí Forest Park in Kingscourt.

The theft occurred between the hours of 5:30pm and 6:30pm on Wednesday, October 5.

A catalytic converter is an emission control device attached to the exhaust on the under body of a vehicle. It contains several grams of precious and value metals - Rhodium, Palladium and Platinum - and the latest incident follows on from a spate of such thefts locally in 2019, and again some years before that.

The number of such incidents recorded across Cavan and Monaghan in recent years is in the double digit range, and like the most recent theft in Kingscourt, occurred towards the end of the year with evenings getting darker earlier.

'Did you notice any suspicious activity where it appeared work was been carried out on a car in the area. If you can help, please contact Bailieborough Gardai on 042-9694570,' gardaí posted on social media. 'If you notice suspicious activity, please always contact your local garda station.'
