Flooding on the N3 Killinkere junction this morning

Heavy rains cause flash flooding

Many floods are appearing on the N3 from Dublin to Cavan

Drivers are being advised to take caution on the roads as flash floods appear across the county.

The N3 has significant flooding, at the Lisgrey junction for Killinkere, and also near the Lakeside Manor, east of Virginia.

The floods come as Met Éireann issued a status yellow rainfall warning with risks of localised flooding.

The warning has been issued for Cavan, Monaghan, Meath, Dublin, Kildare and Louth until midnight tonight, as are Offaly, Laois, Carlow, Kilkenny and Tipperary.

A more severe Orange Warning has been issued for coastal counties along the south and east.

Met Éireann are forecasting: "Heavy rain on Wednesday and Wednesday night, with the possibility of thundery downpours, will lead to localised flooding and some disruption."

Outbreaks of heavy or thundery rain this morning moving northwards leading to localised flooding. A dry spell will develop in many areas although rain will linger in parts of the north and east into the afternoon. Further falls of heavy or thundery rain will move up across the country from the south through the evening and early night. Very breezy and blustery with fresh to strong and gusty easterly winds. Highs of 11 to 15 degrees.

Further outbreaks of heavy rain with possible thunderstorms will track northwards across the country tonight that may lead to localised flooding. Drier conditions with clear spells and isolated showers will follow from the south later. Fresh to strong southeasterly winds will ease somewhat overnight. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.
