Speed checks carried out on N3

Cavan Roads Policing Unit have been conducting speed checks on the N3 in recent day, with a number of drivers detected driving “well in excess” of the legal speed limit. “These drivers have all received Fixed Payment Notices,” noted gardaí in a post shared online.

They also stated there have been 133 fatalities on Irish roads “so far this year”.

“We all have a role to play in assuring we keep this to a minimum.”

‘Lock up and light up’

An Garda Síochána continue to advise homeowners and residents to lock up and light up during longer darker winter evenings. They also warn homeowners and residents to beware of ‘bogus callers’ with an increase in this type of fraud to date in 2022. The incident of ‘bogus tradesmen’ is currently up 15% in 2022.

Gardaí are also aware of an increase in the number of incidents of people impersonating member of the force.

Recent incidents of this type involve the ‘conmen’ requesting to check cash held by the injured party as a result of an increase in counterfeit cash circulating in the area, or that the ‘conmen’ need to check the security of the house as a result of an increase in burglaries in the area.

An Garda Síochána remind that they will not cold call to a house and request to do either of these things.
