Warning issued as temperatures to plunge to minus five tonight

A Status Orange low temperature and ice warning has been issued for Ireland by Met Éireann, with the national weather forecaster saying temperatures will fall below -5C in many areas.

The warning will take effect from 5pm tomorrow and remain in place until noon on Monday, December 12.

"Severe frost and further icy stretches will set in on Sunday night, accompanied by patches of freezing fog," the forecaster has said.

A status yellow freezing fog warning and low temperature/ice warning are already in place this weekend with temperatures set to plummet to minus five tonight.

This morning, airlines cancelled at least 23 outbound flights and 27 inbound flights at Dublin Airport.

It comes after 69 departing flights and 74 inbound flights were cancelled last night.
