Belturbet housing Part 8 due ‘shortly’

Planning permission was sought by the council last year.

Plans in respect of a proposed development of nine fully serviced dwelling units in Belturbet will go before councillors elected to the Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District area for Part 8 approval “shortly”.

Belturbet-based Independent Councillor Brendan Fay questioned the executive of Cavan County Council in respect of the project at Widow’s Row at the January monthly meeting.

Planning permission was sought by the council last year to demolish six existing single storey dwellings and develop a residential scheme comprising of nine new units, together with off-street parking and connections to existing public sewerage system.

The development will consist of one two-bed semi-detached bungalow; five two-bed semi-detached two storey dwellings; and one three-unit, one-bed, three storey dwelling.

A deal to buy the derelict properties adjacent to the Fay Crescent was struck in 2021. The properties are owned by the Representative Church Body of the Church of Ireland.

Director of Services, Eoin Doyle, responded to Cllr Fay’s request for an update. He informed that the deal has yet to be finalised, with one outstanding matter on the seller’s side yet to be “concluded”.

But Mr Doyle assured that Part 8 plans would be brought before an area MD “shortly”.
