Problem solvers in St Pat’s

Two teams from St Patrick’s College travelled to Athlone Community College last Thursday for the Junior Problem Solving Quiz. The event, organised by the Irish Applied Maths Teachers Association (IAMTA), pits teams of Junior Certificate and Transition Year students against one another.

The national competition consisted of six rounds of four questions per round. Questions were based on distance-time graphs, velocity, acceleration, force, pressure and density, energy, units, trigonometry, area and volume and solving linear and quadratic equations.

St Patrick’s College students came second among 16 teams. The winning team comprised Leo O’Callaghan, Louis McEntee and Cerone Devasia. Other students competing were Oisin Hilton, Viet Anh Chuc and Thomas Halloran. Congratulations to all participants.

TEAM Maths

This Friday, St Patrick’s College will host the TEAM Maths Competition, which involves students from the senior cycle, and includes questions based on the Leaving Certificate higher level course.
