Council issues CPO for derelict BJD houses

Cavan County Council has issued a Compulsory Purchase Order in respect of a cluster of derelict houses and disused lands on the outskirts of Ballyjamesduff, which the local authority says are “unfit for human habitation”.

The CPO of the five terrace properties, located in Derrylurgan and opposite the Rassan Road junction, is to make way for the development of “age friendly housing that will then be utilised as social dwellings”.

Owners, lessees and occupiers of the lands have been notified, and objections can be made in writing to An Bord Pleanála by 5:30pm, May 22.

None of the properties - four single storey and one two storey - are currently occupied.

The order refers to houses “unfit for human habitation and not capable of being rendered fit for human habitation at reasonable expense”.

A second part to the CPO refers to 0.6316 hectares of land described as “dereflict/ overgrown” to the rear of the row of derelict houses.
