Paul Myles Memorial Run nears €50K mark

Get your running shoes at the ready because the annual Paul Myles Memorial Run is set to take place this weekend.

The event will kick off at 12pm on May 1 from the Orchard Bar, Drumalee Cross, Cavan Town.

Speaking about the highly anticipated 5K run, Yvonne Myles said: “This is our eighth year running it.

“My father died 10 years ago, he had Motor Neurone Disease and dementia. Because he was always into charity work and he was a runner, we decided to do this to raise a bit of money for local charities. They were the main reasons for doing it,” she outlined of her family’s motivation.

The Myles family picks different local charities each year to receive the funds raised. These include Cavan Monaghan Palliative Care, the Breffni Blues Special Olympics club and more.

“We’ve raised roughly €42,000 over the seven years. Most years we have about €3,000 for each charity,” says Yvonne with pride.

Paul Myles is known widely throughout the county for his work as a garda, as well as his charitable heart.

“He was well known everywhere for his running and his charity work, everyone used to look for him to do the charity work,” Paul’s daughter continues.

This year’s proceeds will go to Breffni Blues Special Olympics Club and Cavan Autism Parents Supports (CAPS) Group.

All entrants will receive a T-shirt and a medal, as well as some sweets and treats along the way.

Pre-registration evening on Thursday, April 27, in the Orchard Bar from 5-8pm. It costs €15 for adults, €5 for students and €25 for a family.
