Cavan to benefit from €37,572 in heritage funding

Work on the funded projects can begin immediately.

Wildlife, local economies and tourism in Cavan to benefit as Heritage Council announces €37,572 worth of funding for projects.

The Killeshandra Tidy Towns Heritage Group has been offered the maximum €25,000 to repair and preserve the front wall of the Rath Church Graveyard.

Meanwhile, The Moybologue Historical Society will undergo a ground penetrating radar survey on defined areas of the Moybologue graveyard to investigate potential targets like the footprint of the last church and belfry which is part of a long term plan to research and interpret the graveyard.

Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre lastly has received €10,072 to help fund Entrance Door Restoration/Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Council, Cavan/2023.

Elsewhere, in Leitrim €11,500 was allocated to Cavan and Leitrim Railway

(Dromod) for carriage restoration; and in Monaghan €12,939 was shared among three projects- Rooskey Lockhouse and Lock Project (€6,225), Inniskeen motte and abbey survey 2023 (€2,591), and Building awareness of significant sites in the communities of Donagh, Tyholland and Errigal Truagh (€4,123).

The Heritage Council says work on the funded projects can begin immediately which will see hundreds of local communities enriched through initiatives, from making previously unseen works of art available to the public, to equipping local communities with skills needed to protect biodiversity, to making landmarks of national significance accessible again. The projects will all be completed by the end of the year.
