Gladys the toast of Oakview Nursing Home

There were great celebrations in the Oakview Nursing Home in Belturbet last Thursday afternoon when the affable and sprightly Gladys Lazenby celebrated her 102nd birthday in style with her family, staff and residents.

The Clontarf native, who was an accountant by profession, attributes her long life to hard work and the fact that she never smoked or drank alcohol and always cycled to work.

Gladys is also proud of the fact that she sung in the church choir. She relocated to Belturbet seven years ago.

An early riser, Gladys gets up at 7:30am every day and has a cup of tea, and also enjoys watching quiz programmes on television.

She has great time for the caring staff in the Oakview saying: “The staff are all lovely here. It is heaven to be here at the end of your days.”
