Lilter Seamus Fay receives his lifetime achievement award from James McGovern of Cavan Town CCÉ.

Cavan Town Comhaltas Mark 70 years

Cavan Town Comhaltas presented €500 each to Cuan Cancer Support Cavan and St Christopher’s Hospice at their recent 70th-anniversary concert in the Townhall Theatre, Cavan.

Majella Galligan of Cavan Town CCE says the concert was held to both present the cheques to charity and honour some of the clubs members for various achievements.

“At the concert we presented our Lifetime Achievement Award to lilter Seamus Fay. Seamus will be 91 at his next birthday and is very well known in musical circles and still plays regularly, he even played a few tunes on the night. We also presented various awards to branch members who were successful in the 2022 All-Ireland Fleadh.”

Majella explained how the group raised the funds by keeping an old tradition last Christmas.

“We took part in the Comhaltas ‘Bring Back the Wren’ campaign on St Stephen’s Day. It’s a dying tradition so Comhaltas head office gave funding for bus so we went around various pubs in Cavan, Denn, Ballyjamesduff, Kilnaleck and Ballinagh singing, playing music and telling stories. We got a great reception. People were delighted to see us back after Covid.”
